Wyze, a relative newcomer to the Australian home security market, has launched the Cam Pan V3, an affordable security camera with wide panning and automatic tracking features.

At just $69.99, it’s one of the cheaper home security devices available, something the US-based brand highlights as a point of difference. Founded by ex-Amazon employees, Wyze launched in Australia late last year, aiming to bring smart home devices to the masses.

A 1080p home security camera, the Wyze Cam Pan V3 automatically detects motion and sound. This allows it to follow and record any potential disturbances, providing real-time updates to the Wyze app. To prevent false alarms, you can customize detection areas to only notify you when something appears on specific sections of the camera’s frame.

As its name suggests, one of the Cam Pan V3’s core features is its ability to pan horizontally 360 degrees, while it can tilt 180 degrees on both horizontal and vertical axes. Depending on your needs, you can place it on a flat surface or use the included wall mount for outdoor use.

Although the previous version never made it to Australian shores, the Pan V3 introduces several upgrades over its predecessor. For one, this model has IP65-rated weather resistance, so you can install the camera either inside or outside. Plus, the 180-degree tilt functionality is double that of the previous model. You can also take advantage of its clearer audio by speaking into the Wyze app, which the camera then relays via its in-built speaker and microphone.

Another benefit of the camera’s outdoor use is that its night vision displays in full colour, providing a more detailed image. Additionally, as it commonly supported by modern smart home devices, the Cam Pan V3 also detects the sound of smoke and monoxide alarms and notifies you via the app. Such a feature could come in handy if a fire or similar event occurs while you’re away, and you can then contact emergency services in a timely manner.

Out now, the Wyze Pan V3 camera is available through the brand’s official website and Amazon for $69.99. Keen to expand across other smart home categories, Wyze also announced that additional devices are coming to Australia. These include robot vacuum, handheld vacuum cleaner, solar panel, smart lock, and garage controller devices.

Australians have various choices for smart home and security devices. Fellow American brand Arlo is a well-regarded security camera company, while the likes of Ecovacs, Roborock, and iRobot are major players in the expanding robot vacuum market. With Wyze, we’ll have even more affordable smart home tech to choose from.

Ha ha, in view of the fact that Australian governments will be replacing thousands of cameras around the nation with ones that don’t have Chinese componentry, I suppose that from now on you will always need to mention in your reviews whether or not security gadgets are “safe” in this regard (whatever safe might mean)!

So how about the componentry of this Wyze camera? ?
